The case for PubPub (M&M Digital Scholarship Discussion)
Jefferson Pooley (director of mediastudies.press, a scholar-led open access publisher of books and journals) recently wrote about PubPub on the blog Elephant in the Lab. His post, The Case for PubPub -- part tool talk, part manifesto -- makes the case not just for a flexible and user-friendly digital publishing platform but for mission-driven approaches to scholarly communication and publishing:

As our libraries (and subsequently, universities and researchers) grapple with the costs of commercial academic publishing, both in terms of dollars and data privacy, non-profit and mission-driven ventures that put knowledge communities first offer another argument for what's valuable and necessary in scholarly publishing. The Case for PubPub will ground this Munch & Mull digital scholarship discussion and provide a starting point for considering the role of libraries in creating a more open, equitable, and sustainable scholarly publishing ecosystem and the tools and partnerships that can support that work.
