Title: Cues of broad regard promote academic engagement and success.

Abstract:  Students' perceptions of teacher care can powerfully shape students' learning, well-being, and educational trajectories. Yet it is unclear how instructors can show this care towards students in settings where one-on-one interactions are infrequent, such as in large introductory college courses.  In this talk, I present how broad regard practices, which convey that instructors recognize and value students’ multifaceted lives beyond the course, can be a powerful lever in improving students' engagement, well-being, and academic success.
