Digital Brown Bag | The Accidental Editor: Five Years with Dante's Library

Begun in 2014 with a Mellon Humanities Writ Large grant, Dante’s Library was envisioned as an open-access website that would allow students and researchers alike to navigate Dante’s material world through images and encyclopedia-style entries. In this presentation, Alyssa Granacki (Ph.D. Candidate in Romance Studies) will discuss her involvement in the project as it developed over the course of five years. Originally one of many collaborators, Alyssa now serves as the project’s managing editor. She will shed light on some of the concerns, challenges, and rewards that come with owning a digital project. Topics to be discussed include:

•    Assessing your role in a project
•    Productive collaborations
•    Pedagogical trial & error
•    Project longevity (email accounts, web platforms, technology, documentation)
•    Handing off a work-in-progress
