The event will focus on scholarly publishing in the US and East Asia, addressing the structure of book publishing in each country as well as journal publishing, focusing on questions such as evaluating journals, peer review, citations and open access. It will look at open access at Duke and the Duke repository as well as open access in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Then, it will discuss scholarly engagement, the role of conferences and of overseas research (as well as the available funding) in addition to publication.
