Innovative Grading and Assessment: Stories from the Classroom
Research shows that traditional approaches to grading and assessment fail to measure how well students are learning in our classes. Innovative grading and assessment approaches rethink how grades are used in higher education, allowing students and educators to focus on the learning process, not just the outcome. If you’re interested in exploring the variety of ways instructors are re-imagining grading and the reasons behind their choices, join us for a virtual panel discussion with four members of the first Innovative Grading and Assessment Community of Practice. They will share about why they chose to start using innovative grading approaches, how these approaches work in their classes, and how using these approaches has impacted their experiences as instructors at Duke.
Panelists:
- Cambey Mikush, Assistant Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery
- Katya Wesolowski, Lecturing Fellow of Cultural Anthropology
- Suzanne Crifo, Assistant Professor of the Practice of Mathematics
Facilitator: Aunchalee Palmquist, Associate Professor of the Practice at the Global Health Institute with a secondary appointment in Cultural Anthropology
