Join Daniel Dardani, an intellectual property expert and Duke University's Director of Physical Sciences and Digital Innovations Licensing and Corporate Alliances, to learn how to strategically protect and publish programming code, data, and innovations on platforms, such as GitHub or data repositories, using open source licensing. In this workshop, he will discuss some popular open source software licenses, potentially ambiguous issues arising when patents and software are combined, and some questions researchers should consider before publishing their innovations and creative work.

Daniel Dardani, CLP, currently serves as the Director of Physical Sciences and Digital Innovations Licensing and Corporate Alliances at Duke University. Prior to joining Duke, he was a Technology Licensing Officer at MIT, where he managed a diverse and sophisticated portfolio of translational technologies, including physical sciences, computing, software, patented algorithms, big data, quantum mechanics, AI/machine learning, robotics and cybersecurity. Dan has co-taught a survey course on intellectual property at Harvard University’s Summer School for over a decade, and is widely recognized as a thought leader in the areas of software, data, and AI/ML licensing.  Dan is currently a member of the Board of Directors for AUTM – the world’s leading technology transfer non-profit member organization.
