Teaching with AI Workshop

For Duke faculty and instructors, this practical session led by José Bowen, the author of "Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning," will help you discover what AI can do for you in your teaching and other academic work (such as grant applications, communication, accreditation reports, student support and faster grading). All assignments are now AI assignments, so we will consider a broad range of both AI-Resistant and AI-Inclusive new assignment techniques, including writing. Understanding which tasks will need human quality will be critical for new curriculum and engaging students; we can and must both reduce cheating and raise standards. We will also learn about how to select the right AI tool for different tasks, how to improve prompts and results, how to create an AI tutor and how to approach new AI policies.

Bring a laptop and learn and practice how AI can improve your work-flow and teaching, while giving you more time for the rest of your life.

Workshop location: Trent Semans Center, Learning Hall 2050 (see map; see drop-off and parking info).

The first 60 attending Duke faculty/instructors will receive a copy of the book "Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning" by José Bowen and C. Edward Watson.

This event is co-sponsored by Learning Innovation & Lifetime Education and Duke University Libraries.
