Archival Research for East Asian Studies

This workshop series is designed to introduce the foudamentals in archvial research to any students who are interested in East Asian studies, reading knowledge of Chinese or Japanese is useful but not required. Boxed lunch will be provided, please register below.

  • Feburary 23: How Archives Work? Kate Collins, Research Services Librarian at Rubenstein
    This session will provide a short introduction to archival theory and how archives are organized to help you develop a search strategy and get you prepared for a research visit.  
  • March 8: Archival research in Chinese studies. Luo Zhou, Chinese Studies Librarian
    This session will briefly introduce primary source research in Chinese studies, from discovery to accessibility to evaluation of materials, print and digital, at Duke and beyond.
  • April 12: Archival research in Japanese studies, Matthew Hayes, Japanese Studies Librarian
    This session will provide a brief overview of archival research in Japanese Studies with a focus on locating and evaluating primary resources, gaining access to physical archives in Japan, and taking advantage of diverse holdings in Rubenstein Library.
