GS717.17: Project Management Lab: Moving from Idea to Action (RCR; in person)

This in-person, highly interactive workshop offers a deeper dive into how to bring a project management mindset to your academic life. Using goals or project ideas from your own academic work, you’ll develop a project plan, explore tools and tactics for managing different aspects of projects, and set next steps for putting your plan into action.

Through focused individual work, paired discussion, and group interactions based in relevant examples from your academic experience, you’ll

  • Scope a project according to goals, time, and resources.
  • Assess potential risks to the project and identify ways to mitigate.
  • Articulate actions that you can take to begin addressing challenges and/or moving your project forward.
  • Identify different forms and purposes of communication, especially considerations for digital communication, for ensuring positive project outcomes, navigating mentor/advisee responsibilities, and ethically conducting collaborative research.

This workshop builds on content and learning outcomes from the virtual RCR Workshop “Applying a Project Management Mindset to Your Academic Life.” Seating for the Project Management Lab is reserved for individuals who have already attended the virtual workshop or have consulted with the instructor.
