This in-person, highly interactive workshop offers a deeper dive into how to structure and manage meetings so that they’re more productive and help you move your project forward. Hands-on activities will allow for working individually and in pairs and for presenting ideas or questions for group discussion. Using scenarios and challenges from your own academic work, you’ll plan your meeting’s purpose and agenda, identify key moments and ways to communicate with others before and during the meeting, and set next steps for putting your plan into action.

Through focused individual work, paired discussion, and group interactions based in relevant examples from your academic experience, you’ll be able to

• Devise a plan for your next meeting, including specific actions to take before, during, and after the meeting to improve its success.
• Evaluate and comment on different meeting scenarios, to identify social dynamics at play (e.g., mentor/advisee relationships) and potential ways to address.
• Experiment with different approaches to managing people and time during meetings, and reflect on which would be most useful for you to apply in your own meetings.

This workshop builds on content and learning outcomes from the virtual RCR Workshop “Better Meetings.” Seating for this Project Management Lab is reserved for individuals who have already attended the virtual workshop or have consulted with the instructor.
