In today’s scholarly ecosystem, authors are keen to follow the impact their research has within the academy and beyond. Impact can be broadly defined as citations, readership, and the overall use of your scholarly work (articles, books, data, etc.). In this workshop, Haley Walton (Librarian for Education and Open Scholarship) and Jodi Psoter (Marine Lab Librarian) will give an introduction to scholarly impact to contextualize and define many measures of research use, from quantitative bibliometrics to qualitative altmetrics. Tools for tracking your impact will be discussed and participants will be able to interactively explore them during the session. Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of how to measure impact, including best practices, pros and pitfalls of various metrics, and with practical ways to keep track of their research impact.
